Date at palace for charity champion
AFORMER businessman who has spent a quarter of a century using his expertise to help out worthy causes has collected an MBE.
Jim Bisset, from Prestbury, was given the gong in the Queen’s Birthday Honours last June and seven months later collected it from Buckingham Palace.
It was handed over by His Royal Highness Prince William and Jim was accompanied to the ceremony by his wife Vivienne.
Jim is chair of Youth Fed, a north west-based youth charity that helps people aged eight to 25, but has supported many other organisations too.
He said: “It is an honour to receive an MBE and to be recognised for my work on a national level.
“I look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with both senior leaders and funders to help drive businesses and charities forward.
“This honour I share with the dedicated colleagues I have had the pleasure of working with.”
During his time at Youth Fed Jim has increased the number of youngsters that engage with the charity and helped with mentoring schemes as well as work and volunteering placements.
Other causes to benefit from his guidance include Macclesfield and Vale Royal Groundwork Trust, Mersey Regional Ambulance Service Trust and East Cheshire Housing Consortium. Upon being given the MBE, at the age of 83, Jim said: “It’s obviously very humbling.”
Chris Hindley, from Youth Fed, said: “I would like to congratulate James for his greatly deserved MBE.
“His determination to improve and adapt the charity’s offer whilst taking into account the changing external environment is key to Youth Fed’s growth each year.
“We would like to thank James for his continual support and commitment to the work we carry out here at Youth Fed.”
