Police snare 23 in speeding hotspot
ASPEEDING hotspot has proved to be a magnet for fast drivers once again after 23 were caught above the 30mph limit.
Police were at Chelford Road, Macclesfield, on Tuesday January 21 and recorded the offences in one afternoon.
As reported in the Macclesfield Express last month a similar visit to the location had snared 12 speeding motorists.
There has been a longstanding complaints from residents in the area about the speed with which cars travel.
The road, which goes through Broken Cross and Henbury, increases to a 40mph limit past the Cock pub but it is 30mph on the Macclesfield side of this.
James Barber and Rob Vernon, councillors for the Broken Cross and
Upton ward, say the problem is causing a danger.
They said: “We are deeply frustrated by the amount of speeding vehicles along what is one of the main access roads into and out of Macclesfield.
“We hope to find a solution that works for the council, the police, and most importantly, the community, before we see a terrible accident occur.”
One resident on the road, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s a real problem, cars whizz past so fast you can barely see them.”
The speeding patrols have been carried out by PCSO Barlow who is from the Broken Cross and Upton Neighbourhood Police.
His PCSOs colleagues have been doing likewise in other areas.
Four vehicles were caught speeding on Hurdsfield Road on Thursday, January 23.
But patrols on Bollington Road, Bollington, and Macclesfield Road, Prestbury, on Monday, January 20, found no one travelling too fast.
