MACCLESFIELD HARRIERS
CROSS country running, much to the surprise of many, is open to all abilities.
All you need to do is join a club (preferably Macclesfield Harriers!) and sign up to race.
It’s a discipline that challenges runners from all different backgrounds and is the perfect way to stay fit and motivated through the winter months.
It has been a strong cross-country season for the Macclesfield Harriers so far and with the final race of the North Staffordshire league completed, many of our teams and individuals have started to collected trophies and awards.
Our very talented under 15 boys and under 17 women’s teams both won their divisions in the North Staffordshire league.
Our under 13 boys and under 17 men’s teams finished second, with the under 11 girls placing third overall.
Individually, we had three league winners: Rebecca Dilworth (U15G), Sian Heslop (U17W) and Fin Proffitt (U17M).
These runners have shown outstanding progress in recent years and are a joy to watch compete.
Further medals go to newcomer Bobby
Tomlinson (2nd, U11B), Ben Hamilton-Ryan (3rd, U15B), Saranya Hasler (3rd, W35), Alex Wright (2nd, M40) and Chris
Goodfellow (3rd, M45).
As we enter a new year, the Club’s cross-country championship races take priority.
The Club competes in three championship races which are the County, Northern and National Cross Country
Championships.
The first of these championship races have already taken place with 50 of our runners racing in Winsford at the Cheshire Cross Country Championships.
The under 17 women’s team brought home a gold medal in the County Championships with strong performances from Sian Heslop, Rebecca Main and Libby Greeney.
Sian Heslop finished in 2nd place taking home another medal.
Another five of our teams secured bronze against highly competitive fields, these were the under 13, 15 and 17 boys and the senior men’s and senior women’s teams.
Individually, Bobby Tomlinson (U11B) secured a bronze medal finishing third in his race.
The final race of the season is the National competition.
