David takes on lead role with heads’ union A
HEADTEACHER has been chosen for a role to represent his colleagues’ from across the country.
David Waugh, from Poynton High School, has been nominated to be the 2020 national president of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL).
It is a professional association and trade union for all school and college leaders, representing more than 19,000 from primary, secondary and post-16 education.
Mr Waugh, who is the current vice president of the ASCL, said that he is looking forward to taking up his position and the ‘great responsibility’ that this will entail. The headteacher was congratulated by Macclesfield MP David Rutley, who visited the school, on Yewtree Lane.
It will be a busy 2020 for the school, which is seeking to expand the TRUE Learning Partnership Multi-Academy Trust, which it launched in 2018 with Lostock Hall Primary. The trust pools resources and encourages greater integration between members.
Hopes are also high for this year’s exam results for Poynton High after it achieved its best ever GCSE performance in 2019.
Mr Rutley said: “2020 has got off to a bumper start for Poynton High School, with exciting and important plans to further develop the TRUE Learning Partnership MultiAcademy Trust.
“I congratulate all the students and staff at the school on the excellent progress they are making.
“I also offer my congratulations to Mr Waugh on his election as ASCL National President.”
