Coach hails ‘outstanding’ display

-

MARK Kennedy said he was really happy with Macclesfield Town’s performance following their 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra last week.

It looked like Macc were destined for the win after Paul Green’s own goal just before half-time gave them the lead at the Moss Rose, but Callum Ainley’s equaliser for Crewe five minutes into second half stoppage meant the Silkmen were denied.

Despite cruelly coming up short, Kennedy was still pleased with what he saw from his players against a team chasing promotion.

“I’m really happy, I suppose you expect me to be really disappointed I’m but delighted with the lads - it was an amazing performance,” he said.

“In the first half we were outstanding with how we played and the style we played in. We’ve only had about three days’ worth of training and then it’s been recovery in between but I’m absolutely delighted with the side and a great result against Crewe who have been excellent this season.

“Everyone was outstanding. We’ve obviously got a few injuries recently and the lads who don’t play really push and motivate the rest to put them in the positions that they’re in.

“I thought we played really well in the first half and I’m not going to say we’re miles better than Crewe, but I was really pleased with what we did in and out of possession and how we pressed the ball. It was really positive.

“From an inpossession perspective I thought we were excellent and from an out of possession perspective I thought we were even better! And that’s coming from a coach who’s conceded a goal in the 95th minute!

“As a manager who is only in his second game it’s tough to concede late goals, but I thought we were unbelievable and I’m really happy.

“The lads were disappointed, but I reminded them the position we’re in the league and that we have a game in hand whilst three points clear, it’s a positive against an outstanding team.

Credit to Crewe as I thought they showed why they are where they are this season.”
