Dennis menace brings floods and fallen trees
STORM Dennis wasn’t quite the same menace as Ciara but he still crushed cars beneath trees, flooded roads and saw a boy rescued from mud.
The heavy rain and winds struck Macclesfield on Saturday, February 15, and took a tree down that landed on a parked Mini and a Transit van.
Both were damaged - particularly the van - and tree surgeons from Great Grounds were called to carefully removed the large trunk and branches.
Afterwards the company Tweeted: “Our tree surgeons have a had a busy day clearing fallen trees after Storm Dennis. Fortunately, nobody was injured, but two vehicles were damaged.
”A tricky dismantling job to ensure no further damage was caused to the vehicles, though it doesn’t look like the Transit can be repaired. Slow and steady wins the day.”
Elsewhere firefighters rescued a teenage boy after he was stuck in mud at Gullane Close, Macclesfield, on Saturday afternoon.
A dog walker had seen the 16-year-old stranded on a banking and called emergency services.
Crews from Macclesfield, Warrington, Widnes and Penketh were called to the scene with all but two sent back when the boy was found to be stuck in shallow mud.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The rescue was complicated by the lengthy slippery bank that the boy was stuck on, and that he had a pre-existing ankle injury.
“They were able to pull him to safety and pass him into the care of paramedics.” According to police, roads in Poynton and Adlington area were affected by the weather.
Street Lane was closed, London Road South was flooded across both carriageways and Middlewood Road as well as the Skellorn Green Lane/ Cawley Lane junction were only passable with care.
