- ALEX SCAPENS

TRADESMEN are being urged to use less advertising on the side of their vans - as it also highlights what could be inside to steal.

The warning comes following a rise in thefts of and from this type of vehicle.

A Transit van with distinctive markings on the side was taken from Coppice Road, Poynton, on Tuesday, February 11, shortly before 1pm.

Police have appealed for witnesses as well as CCTV footage and say the van was sen being driven out of Poynton via Chester Road.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “The theft of and from vans is on the rise nationally. The impact on small businesses is significant with not only the loss of the van and thousands of pounds worth of tools but also the consequent loss of earnings.

”Limit the advertising on your van, which may indicate the content of what is inside.”

Other crime prevention tips include parking in areas that are well-lit or have CCTV, installing your own CCTV and additional security measures such as an alarm. steering wheel lock and immobiliser.

Serial numbers of tools can be registered at www. immobilise.com.

It was part of a spate of burglaries in Poynton that also saw a home on Lindisfarne Drive targeted on the same night as well as another on Coppice Road between 6pm on Wednesday, February 12, and 7.30am on Thursday.
