‘Shoddy repairs’ put drivers into big hole
AFORMER building site manager has blasted the state of roads in Macclesfield - saying shoddy repair work is creating a huge problem with pot holes.
Bill Nocker, from Hurdsfield, became so sick of the poor conditions for drivers that he decided to do his own survey.
He has listed locations that are particularly bad as Hulley Road and Hurdsfield Road, near his home, as well as Sunderland Street, Park Lane, Duke
Street and Churchill Way, in the town centre.
And Bill, 79, also says that he has surveyed the actual work going on to fix pot holes - and is less than impressed.
He said: “I could name 100 roads, the situation is getting worse and worse. The state of roads in Macclesfield is appalling.
”It’s been like that for six to eight months, people are wrecking their cars on these things.
“If you hit one of these things you really know about it.
“They bang in the asphalt (for repairs) and run off. It’s then coming out again in six months.
“But you need to prepare the hole by digging out the defective part down to the base concrete, tidy it, clean it and prime it. Then apply the asphalt.”
Bill says the largest holes he has seen are between 7cm to 10cm.
As someone with 50 years experience in the construction industry he says that doing a cheap job is often a false economy.
He said: “It is vitally important to get it right, it might be a little more expensive initially but in the long run it is cheaper than having to do it again.”
