Top boss opens door of equality for youngsters A

-

SUCCESSFUL businesswoman visited a school to try and inspire the next generation of female achievers.

Suzanne Kennedy, global supply and strategy director at AstraZeneca, was at the King’s School, in Macclesfield, to mark International Women’s Day.

She has combined her rising up the ranks at AstraZeneca, which has a large manufacturing base in Hurdsfield, with bringing up two children.

And Suzanne met with youngsters from the Merit First Council, that are firmly behind gender equality.

She said: “We have started the journey to equality, but we haven’t reached the destination.

”Sexist attitudes and gender stereotyping are so deeply ingrained in our culture that I don’t think we will see true equality for another two generations at least.

“I don’t always have the time for everyone or everything, someone or something is always missing out, but that can be said for men too.”

“You have to learn to be resilient and you have to learn to communicate and integrate regardless of gender, culture, ethnicity and embrace diversity.”

Suzanne also advised youngsters to take advantage of opportunities outside the classroom, such as sport, art and music.

Pupil Isobel Lally, a member of the Merit First Council, said: “We have examined what it means not only to be feminine, but also be masculine and Suzanne’s visit was part of a whole range of workshops and creative projects to examine gender equality.”
