More time to choose this year’s civic heroes
THE closing date for Ma c c l e s f i e l d ’ s Civic Awards nominations has been extended and there is an extra category for people who are helping the community through Covid19.
Nominations for the awards, which recognises people who have given their time to make a difference in the town, are now open until May 29.
The deadline had been last Friday, but because of the coronavirus situation more time has now been allowed to prepare names that are to be put forward.
A new category has also been added for volunteers who are supporting the community during the pandemic.
A separate nomination form is available for this.
Mayor of Macclesfield Janet Jackson, who launched the awards earlier this year, said: “At this unprecedented time in the town’s history everyone is being called upon to do their best to support their community.
“From those staying in isolation to save the NHS, those who are helping their family, friends and neighbours, and all those working so hard in the essential services.
“As the mayor I have decided to add an additional category to my Civic Awards this year – the Coronavirus Community Support Civic Award – in order to recognise those individuals who have gone over and beyond their duty to help in the local community.”
Guidance and nomination forms can be found at www.macclesfield-tc. gov. uk/ your- mayor/ under the Civic Awards tab or by contacting civic@ macclesfield- tc. gov.uk.
Other categories are: Community involvement, youth, sporting and leisure, art and culture, environment, independent business, ambassador of Macclesfield, pride of Macclesfield and lifetime achievement.
