Silkmen ‘are on cliff edge’ over possible points loss

Deduction could see club dumped out of Football League

-

MACCLESFIELD Town are ‘on a cliff edge’ as they wait to find out if another points deduction will relegate them from the Football League into huge financial uncertainty.

It is understood an independent disciplinary committee met yet again on Friday, June 12, to decide whether to hit the Silkmen with a further penalty - with the result still nervously awaited.

MP David Rutley has joined the pleas for mercy to be shown as a deduction could relegate the club from League Two and out of the English Football League.

MACCLESFIELD Town has paid tribute to two loyal fans who have died.

The club says it was saddened to learn of the deaths of ‘much-loved and devoted supporters’ Deborah Lynch and

Jean Wilkinson in the last week.

Deborah, together with her husband Peter, helped write, produce and print matchday programmes for the Silkmen in the early 1980s.

A club spokesman said: “Back in those days, this was no mean feat as the magazine needed every word typing out and after they had been printed, the arduous task of folding and stapling began in earnest.

”And yet, all this was done so wilfully and with a beaming smile which rendered even the most mundane task as something to savour.

“A genuinely lovely person with an absolute heart of gold.”

And speaking of Jean, the spokesman said: “She epitomised everything which is great about our Club and always will do.

“With her infectious personality and unwavering passion for the Club, Jean undeniably helped to inspire generations of Macc fans. An absolute stalwart for so many years, Jean’s legacy will live on in so many people’s hearts and minds forevermore.”

The club has expressed its ‘heartfelt condolences’ to the families of Deborah and Jean.
