I LOVE YOU
I WAS delighted to see this title announced, a follow up to the stunning PS4 game, Spider-Man.
Initially there was confusion surrounding whether the game would be an expansion to that 2018 title. But developer Insomniac Games has confirmed Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a standalone title, although reportedly smaller in scope than the original ... along the lines of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
The graphics look stunning, and it should be available this Christmas.
GRAN TURISMO 7
YOU couldn’t have a PlayStation reveal without Gran Turismo. Largely considered to be the best driving simulator series ever, this will be the first numbered game since 2013 – hopefully making up for 2017’s stripped down Gran Turismo Sport.
The trailer was pure car porn, with stunning attention to detail on the vehicles, the cars looking beautifully smooth in motion on the roads and racing tracks. But to retain that traditional air of mystery, no clues were given as to whether this will be a launch title on the PS5.
A SEQUEL to 2017’s Horizon
Zero Dawn, this game promises new lands to explore, and new mechanical enemies to fight.
The trailer for this postapocalyptic open world adventure was jaw dropping.
Similar to the corruption that made the machines more aggressive in the first game, there’s a new threat to the world – a red fungus which appears to drain the life out of its surroundings.
This was the title which really seemed to show the quantum leap in gaming the PS5 could offer.
CYBERPUNK 2077
ONE of the year’s most hotly anticipated releases, the reveal gave more details about the gameplay and storyline.
Originally due in April, its release was pushed back to September in order for tweaks and refinements.
Being developed by CD Projekt Red, the studio that turned The Witcher into a groundbreaking series, side quests will apparently have much more depth, while there will be fewer map icons and there are more missions to solve compared to The Witcher 3.
It will also boast one of the deepest customisation systems ever seen in a game, even going as far as letting you construct the components of your gender.
RESIDENT EVIL 8: VILLAGE
THE rumours were true, we’re finally getting a new Resident Evil game.
Seemingly set in an undisclosed European location, The Village has actually been referred to as a character in its own right by Capcom, the trailer showing it nestled in the mountains surrounded by fog.
Giving tantalising glimpses of puzzles to be solved, could the man in the trailer be another version of Chris Redfield ... and was that a werewolf?
LITTLE DEVIL INSIDE
NOT only did the trailer have me hooked from the off, but that bomb cutaway had me rolling.
The beautiful graphic style showed a man in the wilderness, where there are giant monsters and glowing swords.
There’s also a sterner looking gent – possibly a butler – going about his business in a gothicky look house.
Once scheduled for release in 2016, this kickstarter-funded gem is definitely a day one purchase.
ODDWORLD: SOULSTORM
ABE and the inhabitants of Oddworld return with another stunning adventure which looks as hard as nails.
While a direct sequel to Abe’s Oyddysee, New ‘n’ Tasty, this is not a remake of the game’s original 1998 sequel, Abe’s Exoddus.
Instead this brand new adventure finds Mudokon people now free from the factories ... but somehow their fate remains in Abe’s hands.
Oddworld was always a favourite because the gameplay was so much fun, the plot compelling and the script was dripping in humour – here’s hoping the series has lost none of its charm.
SACKBOY: A BIG ADVENTURE
A NEW game set in the Little Big Planet world, the trailer showed a co-op 3D platformer stuffed to the gills with adorable characters.
It’s been six years since Sackboy last graced consoles, and it looks like his return could give Super Mario a run for his money.
