Vandals strike at rugby club
YOBS have caused
‘costly damage’ by breaking into Macclesfield Rugby
Club.
Police say the vandals have struck numerous times at the club, on Priory Lane, over the last couple of weeks.
They have caused deliberate damage to the astro-turf pitch, spectator seats and flag poles as well as destruction to the protective boarding and fencing.
Officers have met with representatives from the club to discuss ways in which to prevent the vandalism and patrols in the area have been stepped up.
A police spokesman said: “Macclesfield
Rugby Club has served the Macclesfield community since 1874.
”It is a shame that it is the members from the very community the club serves who are causing the damage.
“The astro pitch has been broken in to on numerous occasions with costly damage to the boarding and fencing.
”If any members of the community witness any vandalism taking place, please report. This behaviour is not acceptable and will be investigated.”
The club will increase CCTV at the site.
Anyone with information about those responsible can call police on 101.
