FUNDRA I S E R who only took up running 12 months ago will attempt to complete an ultra-marathon in aid of East Cheshire Hospice.

Dan Proctor, 35, will cover the distance from Sefton Park, in Liverpool, to the Flower Pot pub, on Congleton Road, Macclesfield.

He will essentially be running home as currently he is based in Merseyside with his girlfriend but lived on Rainow Road, Hurdsfield, until last year.

Dan, who works as a carer at David Lloyd, in Bollington, is now in a strict training regime as he bids to get fit enough for the ultra-marathon, which will take place in mid-October.

He said: “I’ve always wanted to do an ultramarathon and challenge myself as I don’t know anyone in my circle who has done one.

“I’ve only really taken up running in the last 12 months.

“But I did cross country at school and have played football.

“It is going to be tough but I’m following a 16 week training schedule. I’m fairly confident I’ll do it, when I set myself something to do I go for it 100 per cent.”

Dan, who has also served in the Army for the Royal Engineers, will set the exact date for his run once he knows what work shifts it needs to fit around.

By August he hopes to have built up his training runs to marathon distance and by late September it will be nearly the full amount.

A straight line between Liverpool and Macclesfield would be less than the required distance so Dan’s route will go via St Helens, Mere, Congleton and Gawsworth.

He chose East Cheshire Hospice as the benificiary because he is friends with Carl Lamptey, who is bidding to raise £1m for it.

So far he has raised around £500, already smashing his initial target of £200.

And although the run is more than three months off Dan has already thought about how he will keep going through the pain and exhaustion.

He said: “I’ll have my iPod to listen to and my girlfriend in the car driving past every so often.

“People have said they will run part of it with me and there will be some waiting for me at the Flower Pot, hopefully with a nice cold pint.”
