MP backs action to aid hospitality’s recovery
THE new group set up to help Macclesfield’s pubs, clubs and restaurants recover from lockdown is already making waves and has the backing of the town’s MP.
Macclesfield Hospitality Action ( MHA) met with David Rutley as well as Sue Bowden, chief executive of North Cheshire Chamber of Commerce.
Many service businesses were able to open this weekend and MHA is looking to create outdoor spaces for the hospitality sector and boost public confidence to use them. The group is led by Andy Thompson, from tech-support firm Zinc Technical Services and also includes owners of Five Clouds, Rumba, Tempranillo and the Wet-Led Bar.
They are hoping to work with Cheshire East Council, Macclesfield Town Council, Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership and the government in order to achieve their aim.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Rutley said: “It’s time to give local businesses all our support over the weeks ahead, as we move to the next phase in easing lockdown measures.
“This is particularly important in the retail and hospitality sectors – many of these are small businesses. MHA are making an important case for enabling hospitality businesses to trade more easily in outdoor spaces and to make shared spaces available for local operators. They deserve our support and this approach will also help regenerate the town centre and boost the local economy.”
