CHESHIRE Union of Golf Clubs President David Durling (Shrigley Hall Golf Club) has enjoyed some downtime in the corona virus lockdown to read the Cheshire Centenary Book.

David said: “I am thoroughly enjoying the opportunit­y to read the book in the beautiful weather that we have at the moment.

“The book is a great read and covers the history of the County more or less year by year, with wonderful anecdotes and pictures of the County’s great players through the years.

“Once we are able to distribute the book, I can recommend it as a must read for everyone associated with golf in Cheshire and beyond.”

Shrigley Hall’s men also played a singles Stableford and George Bresnahan was in top spot with 40 points from Matthew Waite 39 and Andrew Jackson, Peter Slack, Matthew Smith, James Cross and Eamon McCready, all 37.

A singles Stableford at Alderley Edge was won by Gavin Elly after a cpo on 40 points with Robert Pindar and Ray Parker, one more than Steve Bennett.

A 9-hole Mixed Stableford at Alderley was won by Tracy Smith with 17 points from Barry Holding 14 and Roger Smith and Simon Allen, both 12.

The second summer medal for Davenport’s men saw Gareth Winstanley go clickety clik to win division one from Louis McCumesky, Alan Fletcher and Robert McGowan, all 68.

In division two Peter Edmondson won a cpo on 67 from Mark Rushton and top of division three was Neil Healey with 66, three less than Sam Pilley and Gordon Smith.

Avro’s men played for the Tom McKenzie Trophy and Phil Oakes was the proud winner with 35 points, one more than Neil Flood and Leslie Fowler.

In a midweek Stableford at Avro Phil Normanton was out on his own with 41 points from Steve Yule 38 and Ivan Robertson 34.

Macclesfie­ld ladies enjoyed some beautiful weather as they played a singles Stableford and Alycia Sutton took full advantage of the superb conditions to post a very impressive 41 points to post her second win in the three competitio­ns played so far since the lockdown.

She felt that it was the best that she had ever played and she also had the only birdie of the day on the par five ninth.

Next in was Kay Atkin 34 and Jill Hunter-Blench 33.

The 9-hole Stableford was won by June Sumner with 16 points ahead of Maureen Routley and Marjorie Mottershea­d.

Macc’s men played for the Spring Cup and Keith Griffin eased home with 67 just ahead of Ian Heppell and Jonathan Hoye, both 68 and Pul Kimpton and Peter Mottershea­d, both 69.

Prestbury’s men were in singles Stableford action and Steve Smith cruised to victory with 41 points from Russell Gardner 39, Lee Charnley 38 and Simon Perry who won a cpo on 37 from four other players.
