Fundraising Fin’s 350 miles clock up £4,600 for Hospice
AN ENERGETIC youngster has run a staggering 350 miles during lockdown to raise much-needed money.
Fin Foote, 11, from Bollington, began running at least two and a half miles every day in March and his last run this week saw neighbours cheer him home.
His efforts have raised more than £4,600 for Cheshire East Hospice.
Fin began running as a way to burn off energy as, when lockdown began, the many sports he takes part in all stopped.
And he quickly realised this provided the perfect opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause.
Mum Sarah Latham said: “It started at the beginning of lockdown as he is very active and he said he had nothing to do. So as soon as school finished he started running.
“He’s been really good, even when it was throwing it down he would go out and when it was hot he’d wait until about 9pm and then do it.
“He enjoyed making new routes to do, his favourite was going up to White Nancy. Now he’s finished, he’s still asking if he can go for a run.”
Fin, who attends Tytherington School, is a very keen young sportsman.
He is a member of Macclesfield Harriers, Macclesfield Rugby Club and Bollington Cricket Club as well as playing football for Bollington United.
As his four-month challenge progressed, more and more people heard of it until on his final run people lined the final few streets of his route to clap.
There was even an official finish line created for him.
Throughout the four months Fin has been accompanied on his runs by either Sarah or her partner.
Sarah said: “I am really proud of the motivation and determination he has showed. I don’t think he realises just how brilliant what he has done is.
“What has also been lovely is that people began to recognise him and their encouragement really kept him going.”
