Virtual 10k gets second run-out after huge success

-

A VIRTUAL 10km run that proved a lockdown success will be held for a second time.

The event took place in June and saw participants cover the distance on their own over two days, recording proof on their Smart phone or watch.

It was organised by keen runner Simon Spurrell from the Cheshire Cheese Company, who was also the sponsor, and raised more than £3,000 for worthy causes.

This time it will be held on the weekend on September 5 and 6 and is being sponsored by the

Chilli Banana, whose owner Ben Jackson will take part.

All proceeds will go to Cheshire East Hospice with Macclesfield and District Lions Club helping organise the fundraising side.

Debbie Hughes, from the club, said: “Our first Virtual 10k event was very successful and raised a lot of spirits during lockdown.

”We are determined to do all we can to support local causes who are already under pressure during the pandemic.”

To enter a minimum donation of £10 is required and there is a prize for the fastest time.

The team at the Chilli Banana got involved in memory of customer and friend Michael Schrempft, who died from cancer in February last year.

Ben said: “Known to many as The Maestro, Mike was an extremely popular man. Mike spent his final days at the East Cheshire Hospice in Macclesfield and passed away peacefully.”

This year’s Bollington Bikefest will also be held in a similar way on September 12 and 13.

It is the ninth time it has been held and once again there will be three different routes to choose from.

Entry is a minimum £10 donation and the event has been jointly organised by Macclesfield and District Lions Club, Bollington Town Council and Girl Guiding Cheshire Border.
