School run parents asked to keep distance

-

PARENTS are being asked to keep school gates clear when the academic year begins in Macclesfield.

Cheshire East Council has issued guidance ahead of children returning.

And consideration during drop-off and pick-up, already an issue in certain areas of the town prior to Covid, is among the areas of concern.

Parents are asked to plan their car journey in advance and are reminded ‘park and stride’ schemes operate at some schools.

Those with children using buses are asked to promote the use of hand sanitiser and face coverings, unless their child is exempt.

Queueing and boarding will be additionally organised and there will be extra vehicle cleaning as well as more buses provided. A delay in issuing bus passes means there will be a two-week grace period where youngsters can travel without showing their pass.

Councillor Kathryn Flavell, cabinet member for children, said: “After most of us entered lockdown back in March, with many children continuing their education at home, I understand that the return to school may feel daunting for some parents.

“I’d like to reassure them that teams across the council are working tirelessly with schools and transport providers to implement safety measures in readiness for the new term.

“We’d like to ask parents and carers who have to drive, to help us to ensure children and young people get to and from school safely and relieve congestion by planning their journeys and parking in a safe and considerate location.”
