From online to rail line job hunt just suits Trevor

-

A FORMER restaurant manager who was made redundant during the coronavirus pandemic tried to find new employment by wearing his best suit and handing out 200 CVs at a railway station.

Trevor Walford, 63, who used to work as Shrigley Hall Hotel in Macclesfield, decided to be proactive in his hunt for work after losing his job.

So he travelled to Leeds railway station with a sign and dished out CVs to anyone who would take one and listen to the skills he has to offer.

Trevor has won a legion of fans for his initiative and go-getting approach to finding work.

He said: “I live alone and after months of sitting here, applying for jobs online, I got tired of it all. I figured I should put myself out there, so that’s exactly what I did.

”The amount of people that came over - probably because I was in a suit and had a sign – and spoke to me, it was all just so brilliant.

”I suppose I am one of many who are in this situation - it has been a very difficult time. But after feeling sorry for myself, I realised that I do not want to just sit around and do nothing.

“So I begun looking for work anywhere I could get it.”

Trevor says he was devastated to lose his job in March having been in the restaurant business for many years.

And he said that it was hard to find another role with restaurants shutting across the country - and, he believes, his age counting against him.

But after a few hours handing out CVs, that evening his LinkedIn page had received more than 100,000 views.

Trevor, who currently lives in West Yorkshire, said: “Just because of my age, and previous roles, does not mean I am not happy to take a role - I would be happy to stack shelves. Right now, I need to keep my head above water. I’m blown away by all the support, but all I want is to be back in work.

”I know it’s a difficult time right now, for so many people. My message to those in my situation would be to get out there and keep on pushing, keep on knocking on the door.

“If you show that you really want it, you’ll give yourselves the best chance possible. I hope I have done that.”
