Workmates saddle up to raise cash for brain tumour dad

- ALEX SCAPENS

COLLEAGUES of a dad who has been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour will cycle between their workplaces to raise money for him.

Pete Bromley, 58, of Macclesfield, was diagnosed in July and given 12 months to live.

Last week the dad-ofseven married his longterm partner Jodie Walsh following a huge community fundraising effort to help pay for a wedding.

Now his friends at airline Jet2, where Pete worked as a runway bus driver until taking time off, are cycling 60 miles from Leeds-Bradford Airport to Manchester Airport.

They aim to raise £2,000 for the family, which could be used for a honeymoon.

Mark Fegan, 51, who works in ground ops, is among the team of 14 who will take on the challenge on Sunday, September 27.

He said: “Pete is always, happy bubbly and helpful, he’s great for advice and is a down-to-earth chap.

“He is sorely missed and very popular.

“The bike ride is a gesture to say thank you for what you’ve done and that everyone is rooting for you.

“A lot of people have been donating, people who don’t even know him.”

The group will set off from Leeds-Bradford as that is Jet2’s headquarters and Manchester Airport is where they work.

And following the ride the plan is for them to meet up with Pete, who will be there at the finish line.

Mark said: “We are all reasonably fit people but it is going to be a challenge. It’ll be worth it though.

“It will be enjoyable but sad as we know why we are doing it, we’ll have to put that to the back of our minds and make it a good day for Pete.”

Pete was diagnosed following a CT scan after a period of symptoms that included headaches, sleep loss, forgetfulness, loss of balance and low mood.

Jodie said: “Our wedding day was amazing, everyone wanted to do it all over again.

“We’d like to thank all the people who helped us, we are really grateful for what they have done.”
