Prestbury’s total gets chased down by rivals

- BILL LIVESLEY

PRESTBURY were away at rivals Kerridge at the weekend, where the home skipper won the toss and put Prestbury in to bat.

Cam Kirkland and Steve Oldfield opened the batting but after a solid start both openers were out with the score on 9 off 7 overs, Oldfield for 4 and Kirkland for 5 both caught.

Two new batsman came in, Ben Wallace and Max Cowling-Jones, and they took the score to 24 before Cowling Jones was caught for 11

With only three runs added, Wallace was out bowled for 5.

Prestbury were struggling to get going – skipper George Brindley was out for 1, the score 31 for 5 off 16 overs.

Rishi Mehta was joined by Will Worswick and he started to take the bowlers on and the score reached 50 but just when things were improving, Worswick was out caught off the bowling of Reagan for 22.

Cariag Moralia didn’t bother the scorers, caught, as three wickets fell at 70 – Ridley Partridge 5 and Jinaid Mir 0.

That left Rishi and his twin brother Rahul to use the last 12 overs and we saw patience and determination not to give their wickets away and the brother batted out the innings.

Prestbury finished on 105 for 9 off their allocated 40 overs, Rishi finishing on 30 off 90 balls not out, and Rahul 19 off 33 balls not out.

After the break Kerridge went about getting the 106 off 40 overs. Prestbury bowlers did have some success, Partridge running out Capper for 5 but it was 50 runs before Prestbury got a second wicket when Haridge was caught by wicket keeper Cowling Jones off the bowling of Rahul Mehta for 7.

Rahul struck again with the wicket of Reagan, caught by Oldfield for 5, but dropped catches meant Danny Brown had powered past 50. He and new batsman Nish saw Kerridge home by seven wickets in the 23rd over. Brown finished on 78 not out, Prestbury’s top wicket taker was Rahul 2 for 26.

The seconds played Styal seconds and posted 145, top scorer for Prestbury Andy Scott 57. Styal reached the target with six wickets down, for Prestbury Yassin took 3 wickets. The thirds game on Sunday rained off at Styal. The firsts are away at Offerton next Saturday.
