Covid-hit groups will get job club and other activity thanks to cash
A COMMUNITY group in Macclesfield will offer activity and learning sessions for people affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Green in the Corner, based at Hurdsfield Community Hub, has received more than £4,000 from the Safer Communities Fund to put on the sessions for the community.
They will include a gardening group, a job club, a youth club and activities for children during the school holiday.
The gardening group will meet monthly and will maintain the community garden at the rear of the library and grow produce for the café.
A laptop and printer will be provided at the weekly job club as well as advice of applications, training and looking for work.
The youth club will meet weekly and will be a safe space for young people to come and play games and have drinks and snacks.
And activities for children during school holidays will be craft-based or a film club.
Funding has been allocated by Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane from money taken back under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
He said: “It’s more important than ever that our communities have the opportunity to get together in Covid-secure manner in order to reduce social isolation and improve the wellbeing of many of those in our community who have been adversely effected by the pandemic.”
Rachel White, from Green in the Corner, said: “This funding will support us to increase a sustainable community facility which will improve social mobility, increase health and leisure opportunities, end social isolation and develop and facilitate community groups and organisations.”
There is still funding available for community groups with grants of £1,000 and £5,000 on offer. To apply visit www. cheshire-pcc.gov.uk.
