Woman’s appeal to find photos of great-grandfather
AWOMAN has put out a call for photos of her greatgrandfather, as she has never seen a picture of him.
Anne Armitage, of Buxton Old Road, Macclesfield, is looking for any photos of her great-grandfather George Hodkinson.
He lived around the Heaton Norris and Portwood areas of Stockport in the late 1800s and early 1900s and ran the Railway Inn at the time of death, aged 56, in 1905.
Because Anne does not have any photos of George she is hoping some of the descendants of his brother James, who had nine children, may be able to help.
She is particularly interested in seeing where the ‘Spanish-looking’ dark hair and complexion of her mother Annie, grandmother Edith and her grandmother’s sister Mary Elizabeth, comes from and if this is shared by George.
Anne said: “I’m looking for some descendants of this man James Hodkinson. My grandmother and her sister had very black hair and very brown eyes but their mother was very pale so I’d love to see a photograph.”
Anne’s grandmother Edith married Jim Moran, and lived in Brinnington while her great-aunt Mary Elizabeth moved to Sheffield.
George’s brother James had nine children: Sidney, Ernest, William James, Benjamin Eli, Henrietta, Joseph, Vernon, Leonard and Stanley all born between 1877 and 1897.
From these nine children James then became a grandfather to 12 grandchildren, all of whom were born in the Stockport area.
“I’d love somebody who’s got some photos of James Hodkinson and his family just to see what the gene pool is like because I don’t have anything from my great-grandfather’s side,” said Anne.
“He’s got nine children so there must be somebody amongst those who’s hanging around.”
