Town set to host first green summit

-

MACCLESFIELD’S first environmental summit will take place in the spring.

The event, organised by the town council and eco group Macctastic will be held on Saturday, May 15.

It is open to all residents and subjects covered include climate change, buying green, passive houses, food waste and carbon neutrality.

Guest speakers have been invited and there will also be break-out groups for further discussion and to come up with actions the town can adopt.

Organisers hope the event will end with a comprehensive list of actions that are needed to ‘steer Macclesfield, along the path to becoming more sustainable’.

Councillor Neil Puttick, Macclesfield Town Council’s environment champion, said: “The council is really excited about the summit and the collaboration with Macctastic.

“The topics of climate change and sustainability are on the tip of everyone’s tongue at the moment and we are keen to make Macclesfield as sustainable as possible.”

More details will be revealed nearer the time but the summit launches this week with three questions designed to identify what changes the people of Macclesfield want to see over the next five year.

This will help shape the programme of the summit and the questions are: What does a sustainable Macclesfield mean to you? If you could change something to make Macclesfield more sustainable, what would it be? What would you need to help you to take part in the journey towards a more sustainable town? Residents are encouraged to respond by Friday, February 26, to do so email Abigail.Sherratt@ Macclesfield-tc.gov.uk.
