Aim of 2 million litres sees brewer hope to move in
ACRAFT brewer that wants to up production to two million litres a year is hoping to open new premises in Macclesfield.
David Manning, from Manning Brewers, has plans to invest £500,000 at Buxton Road, in Bosley, to create a brewery, shop and taproom.
The industrial site, on Buxton Road, is currently unused and a planning application for the work has been submitted to Cheshire East Council.
Should approval be given, Mr Manning estimates at least 10 jobs will be created.
A report submitted with the application, by consultants RPTI, says: “Manning Brewers Ltd was formed in 2016 after acquiring Beartown Brewery and since that time has increased production and sales to approximately 600,000 litres of craft ale per annum which is restricted by the current premises.
“The company seeks new premises to increase its capacity, to around two million litres per annum which require larger premises and the investment of around £500,000 in automated modern brewery equipment.”
The taproom would be used for customers to sample products before of buying them from the shop ‘with no more than a few people in per day expected’.
On site there would also be offices, storage space and a total of 26 car parking spaces. Currently Manning Brewers operates out of Congleton.
Public consultation on the plans runs until March 10 and so far just one representation has been made - in favour of the new brewery.
The report states: “The change of use to a brewery will help to bring a vacant unit back into a viable and sustainable use.
”It is suggested that the use, in principle, is suitable for its location and of benefit to the community and would not lead to significant adverse impacts being cause to the amenity of nearby occupiers and residents.”
A council decision on the planning application is expected by the end of March.
