60 fined for breaching lockdown restrictions
A TOTAL of 60 fines have been handed out in the Macclesfield policing area for breaches of Covid regulations during the first month of lockdown.
According to figures released by Cheshire Police 685 fixed penalty notices were given across the county during this period.
This includes 116 between Friday, February 5, and Sunday, February
7.
Officers have now urged people to stick to the rules – that are there to protect public safety.
The force says it follows an approach of engaging and explaining but will enforce immediately in the face of blatant or repeated breaches of rules.
On one occasion 15 fines were issued following a party at an address booked online that had been decorated with balloons and banners.
A man there claimed everyone was from the same household but there were people hiding in cupboards.
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: “While the majority of residents are abiding to the rules, there are still a minority who are bending and blatantly breaching restrictions which are in place to save lives.
“Officers are risking their own health to protect residents from this deadly virus and when they are met by blatant and repeat breaches they will enforce without delay.
“There are many more people in hospital with the virus during this lockdown than at any time during the pandemic.
“This is why it is so important that people continue to stick to the regulations, we will only get through this health emergency by us all doing the right thing.”
Coronavirus breaches can be reported on the Cheshire Police website.
