Owners shut down popular restaurant ‘with a heavy heart’
THE Covid pandemic has claimed another victim in the Macclesfield hospitality industry with the permanent closure of a popular restaurant.
Owners Bay Turkish Restaurant, on Mill Street, announced it will shut last week and say the decision was taken with ‘a heavy heart’.
But they say that their plan is to return to the hospitality scene in the near future with a new venture.
Customers have expressed their sadness at the news, which was announced on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
The post said: “This is a decision we have not taken lightly, it is with a heavy heart we have to tell you that Bay Restaurant is now closed.
“With Covid playing a huge part in this decision, it has been a strange 12 months we have missed entertaining and serving you in the restaurant but thank you all immensely for your support during these times.
”Bay will be no more, however you have not seen the last of us we will be back in hopefully the near future with something new for you.”
As the news spread diners inundated the owners with messages of support.
Jan Banks said: “Sad for you all, what a utter horrid year it’s been. Love your restaurant and the lovely takeaways you have provided during this rotten time.
”Fingers crossed for better times ahead for you, wait with anticipation for what’s next.”
Carrie Easterby said: “What a shame - one of the very best restaurants if not the best in Macclesfield.
”The food, service, everything absolutely fab and I hope this isn’t the last we have seen of you.
“We have even had your takeaways all the way through lockdown and again the service and food is just lovely.” Bay had already reduced its opening hours earlier this year, closing Monday to Wednesday to concentrate on takeaway delivery and collection Thursday to Sunday.
Another popular business to fall victim to the pandemic is ‘Aristo, a Greek restaurant on Chestergate.
Last summer businesses formed Macclesfield Hospitality Action group in a bid to protect the industry from the worst of the Covid pandemic.
