Peter to hook up with his musical pals to spread Joy
JOY Division’s Peter Hook and Manchester Camerata will be reuniting on stage in Manchester later this year.
The legendary Macclesfield band’s bassist will hit the stage with a full orchestra at the O2 Apollo.
Taking place in September 2021, The Sound of Joy Division Orchestrated will pair the band’s post punk sound with more than 50 classical musicians and vocalists.
The events last toured in 2019, selling out the Sydney Opera House and London’s Royal Albert Hall.
This will be the first time Peter Hook and Manchester Camerata will play together in their hometown.
The concert has been curated by him and musical director Tim Crooks and will include some of Joy Division’s classic songs as well as some lesser-known tracks.
The celebration of the one of the most influential bands in music history has been described by Flick of the Finger as ‘seminal, bold and innovative’.
About the first dates, Peter Hook commented: “This has to be one of the most nerve-wracking things I have ever done. To sell out the Royal Albert Hall before anyone had even heard it was a fantastic compliment it has to be said.
“The reaction has been wonderful and this time around I’m looking forward to being able to enjoy it myself. To bring it to Manchester for the first time will be very, very special.”
Musical director, Tim Crooks, added: “It’s great news that we’ll be bringing this amazing show to The Palladium and The Apollo, two of my favourite ever venues.
“As musicians we’ve all missed being able to perform over the last year, just as fans have missed their favourite gigs.
“Let’s hope these concerts promise a long-awaited release for everybody there.”
The Sound of Joy Division Orchestrated, a collaboration between Peter Hook and Manchester Camerata, will be at the O2 Apollo Manchester on Friday September 17.
Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Friday March 5 from Ticketmaster.
An O2 Priority pre-sale will take place from 9am on Wednesday March 3.
