Birthday boy’s charity drive is inspired by dad

- ALEX SCAPENS

AYOUNGSTER celebrated his seventh birthday by raising money for a charity that has helped support his family.

Connor Murray, of Knowsley Road, Macclesfield, collected more than £2,600 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust with his activities.

His dad Lee, 42, has the condition, which affects breathing and digestion, and although advances in treatment mean he is managing well, a high level of medication is required.

This includes several insulin injections every day as the condition has caused him to have diabetes.

Connor, who is in year two at Prestbury Church of England Primary, carried out much of his fundraising at school. It included a day where staff and students wore yellow or purple as they are the colours of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Connor stood at the school gate at the beginning and end of the day collecting donations for the cause.

In addition there was a GoFundMe page for people to donate and be entered into a raffle draw to win one of three bouquets of roses donated by the Flower House.

The winners were Wayne Maxwell, Mandy Rafferty and Lynn Gandy.

Mum Claire said: “We were blown away by people’s generosity. Connor’s school were amazing, in particular the headmaster who allowed him to have the fundraising day.

“They often have dress up days at school and Connor had been saying for ages he wanted to do a charity fundraiser.

“He was really pleased with how it went and proud to do it for his dad. Now he wants to do another one”

Connor said: “My daddy has a condition called Cystic Fibrosis is an illness that affects his breathing and also some of his organs inside his tummy.

“He was born with it and it means that he has to have lots and lots of medicines everyday to keep him well.”

The family has thanked everyone who donated to the cause.

Around 10,000 people in the UK suffer from cystic fibrosis and 1 in 25 people are carriers of it without suffering symptoms.
