Milly’s hair-raising £8k tribute to mum

- ALEX SCAPENS

ASTUDENT has shown support for her mum by ‘braving the shave’ to raise thousands for a cancer charity.

Milly Driver, a sixth form pupil at Tytherington School, has collected a staggering total of £8,101 for Macmillan.

The 18-year-old’s mum Joanne was found to have stage four breast cancer in July 2020 having already beaten the disease several years earlier.

So Milly, who lives in Kettleshulme, decided to show her solidarity by having her hair shaved off at the same time as her mum.

She said: “I decided to shave my hair because my mum got diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, which had come back as she fought it off a few years ago.

“Last time she was devastated about her hair falling out and she felt so out of control by it.

“So, this time I said why don’t we both shave our heads before her hair falls out, so it was her choice and I’d be right there doing it with her.”

Milly, who also works part-time at Marks and Spencer in Macclesfield, Cheshire, has smashed her original fundraising target of £500.

She added: “I decided to raise money for Macmillan because I know how much of a difference they make to people living with cancer.

“I also wanted to do something special for my mum, whilst also raising money so that many other families get the vital support they need.

“The money they raised will help Macmillan provide physical, financial and emotional support for people with cancer.”
