Low-key election day on the cards
IT will be a low-key local election day in Macclesfield this year but residents will still be going to the polls on Thursday, May 6.
There is voting for two seats on Bollington Town Council, one on Macclesfield Town
Council, for Cheshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner and a neighbourhood planning referendum in Gawsworth.
For Macclesfield Town Council Central ward three candidates are standing.
They are John Anthony Knight, Green, Sandy Livingstone, Labour, and
Abhishika Srivastav, Conservative.
In Bollington’s Central ward the three people standing are Barrie Malpas, Conservative, Judy Snowball, Labour, and Gareth Williams, Liberal Democrats. In the East ward the four candidates are Helen Louise Ellwood, no party given, John Mark Lowny Le Moignan, Conservative and Unionist Party, John William Place, Labour, and Allan Williams, no party given.
The Police and Crime Commissioner vote will be contested by Jo Conchie,
Liberal Democrats, John Vincent Dwyer, Conservative, Nick Goulding, Reform UK, and David Michael Keane, Labour and Co-operative Party.
Deadline for registering to vote is midnight on April 19, completed postal vote applications must be received by Cheshire East Council by 5pm on April 20 and 5pm on April 27 is deadline for completed proxy vote applications.
Lorraine O’Donnell, the returning officer for elections in the borough, said: “There are just a few days left for people to register to vote or apply for a postal vote or proxy ballot – so don’t leave it too late.
“It is important that everyone who is eligible is able to have their say in these elections.”
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm and Covid-secure arrangements will be in place. Voters are asked to wear a face covering (unless they have a valid exemption), bring their own pencil or pen, follow signs and guidance from staff and adhere to social distancing.
