Farmer demands action on ‘worst road I have seen’
AFARMER has branded a potholed road in rural Macclesfield ‘the worst I have ever seen’ and demanded action to fix it.
Kate Turnock, 23, from Wincle, estimates the onemile stretch on Minn End Lane she uses has around 50 holes in it.
She and other residents want Cheshire East Council to undertake proper resurfacing work on the road instead of occasion individual repairs that can quickly crumble.
Kate said: “It has been like this my whole life but has become more and more extreme.
This road is worse than anything I’ve seen. The whole road needs resurfacing but they just fill in a few holes that crack straight away.
”We transport animals along the road and it is not good for their welfare getting thrown around.”
Kate has contacted the council to ask for more - and better - work to be done to the road but has not heard back in a month.
And she says others in the area have been trying to raise the issue for several years. A Cheshire East Council spokesman said: “The winter weather pattern of freezing temperatures, mixed with heavy rain, snow and ice does, unfortunately, impact on road surfaces. We constantly work to maintain our roads and put the safety or road users as a highest priority.
“We are aware of the condition of Minn End Lane and continue to carry out routine inspections and repairs. It has been identified for inclusion in a future programme of works.
“However, due to a reduction in highways government funding this year, our repair programme will focus on the key routes on the highway network only. Largerscale resurfacing works will concentrate on roads with the greatest usage and greatest risk, to enable the money to be used in the most effective way.
“The next programmed safety inspection on the road is due in June, and we will continue to respond to any reports we receive.”
