Opening home game to forget for Beavers

- ANDREW REYNOLDS

BRAMHALL 1st XI’s first home game of the season saw visitors Warrington come to town.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, The Beavers did not start as planned. Some friendly bowling, coupled with poor fielding allowed Fletcher and Tyrrell to get off to a flyer racing to 50-0 in no time. With a fractured thumb to the young quick Ollie Latter and Ashley

West finding it difficult to settle in, the hosts opted for some early bowling changes to find the necessary consistency to put pressure on the visitors. Luke Littlewood and Kieran Berrington did exactly that, aided by some far better fielding from the home side, they managed to peg Warrington back to 56-2.

Luthra played very nicely for his 49 before the nerves/ added pressure got the better of him. The added intensity to the Beavers fielding and excellent bowling from Ryan Macciocchi and (not so)

Littlewood saw the home side really start to put the squeeze on the visitors, who found themselves 123-6.

Spinner Ollie Webb, who has made a great start to his Bramhall career bowled excellently to finish things off for the hosts with 7-3. The ‘finisher’ enjoying the springtime sales at

Church Lane.

The away side finished with 150 and would be disappointed going into the break after such a brilliant start. Bramhall, on the other hand, were also slightly disappointed after such a poor start in the field. If they want to be challenging for the top spot this season, the intensity they Beavers showed in the middle overs need to be replicated throughout the entire innings.

In Bramhall’s reply, Warrington’s Rudd (5-22) proved a handful with tight inswingers which helped the visitors see Bramhall slump to 108-7 and end on 129 all out.
