Martin leads the way in bogey comp

THERE was some hot scoring at Tytheringt­on in fast-running conditions and a bogey competitio­n was led in by Martin Poulton on +5 from Steven Webb +3 and the top lady was Jen Greenlaw with +1.

A midweek Stableford at Tytheringt­on was won in great style by veteran Paul ‘Cookie’ Almond with 47 points, two more than Andrew Lever.

Celia Stanley was top lady with 35 points from Chris Jakubowski 32.

In the Alliance

Archie Preston Mixed Foursomes KO Tytherton won a tight contest with Darwen by 4-3 to move into the last 64.

Macclesfie­ld ladies enjoyed a singles Stableford and none more than the red-hot Sue Orwin who kept up her great run of form with a top score of 37 points.

It left her one clear of Jill Hunter-Blench who won a cpo from Carol Hyde.

Macc ladies also posted a fine 5.5-1.5 win in their East Cheshire league clash with Wilmslow.

A Texas Scramble at Alderley Edge was won by the fab four of Sean Hall. L Taylor, R Anderson and L Stanyer with 53.7 from R and J Pindar, J Atkins and G Buxton 53.8.

Edge’s ladies monthly medal was won by Justine

Jackson with 68, four less than Helen Fitch and Debbie Law.

A medal for Davenport’s men had the divisions topped by Craig Lloyd 67, Lewie Wilson 67 and Max Lauder 66.

Davenport ladies played their first Beswick qualifier and in charge of the three divisions were Deborah Housley 37 points, Susan Hudson 39 and Elaine Glover 38.

David Greensmith topped a midweek Stableford at Prestbury with 41 points ahead of Kieran Pickles 40 and Trevor Mather 38.

Prestbury ladies played in two divisions in the EG Trust Pairs qualifier and in division one Ellen Cail led a close contest with 40 points, one more than Elaine Fawkes, Myra Penkethman and Heather Cunningham.

Wendy Phelan was the star of division two with a fine haul of 43 points and the 9-hole winner was Barbara Newport with 23 points.

The Thursday Stableford at Shrigley Hall saw Ray Haddock in firm control with 42 points, four more than Steve Ashton, Peter Slack and Graeme Nimmo.

The Sunday Stableford at Styal needed a cpo on 38 points to see Andrew Martin into top spot from Tom Elliott.

It was also close in a Seniors Yellow Tee Stableford with Phil Moore winning a cpo on 41 from David Wrigley one more than Tony Nabarro.

The Wednesday Stableford at Styal saw John Surtees race home to victory after a cpo on 40 points with Mike Wild.

The Landers Affen monthly medal at Styal was won by Ian Buckley with 64 and junior Sam McLeod had the best gross of 68 and took second spot on a cpo on 66 from Mark Robins and Jon Miller.

Styal ladies played a singles Stableford and Sue Grange led in with 38 points, two more than Joan Andrews and Kath Goodall.

Birchwood Golf Club’s greens provided an excellent challenge on the penultimat­e fixture of the Alliance season.

Current Order of Merit leader Jamie Howarth (Davenport) increased his lead to 24 points over Phil Archer (Poulton Park) after finishing second to Scott Jackson (Disley) who posted 38 points, one more than Jamie with Phil and Craig Corrigan next in with 35.

The pro am winner was Alliance legend Andy Baguley, now representi­ng Westhought­on, who combined with Joe Manfredi (Regent

Park), for a top score of 43 points.
