Patchy roadworks will keep recovery in the slow lane
LIKE many other residents I received a note through my letterbox today from Cheshire East Highways which reads as follows,” We will be carrying out patching works along the A536 Congleton Road which will take five days to complete.”
The end result of this ‘patching’ is that a major ‘A’ road will be closed to all but residents.
The notification goes on to say, “We understand there is no right time to undertake this work,” and there I disagree.
A 12-week period when the government urged everyone not to travel and the A536 looked like a county road in Arizona would have been an excellent time.
Are we to believe that while butchers bakers and candlestick makers were able to continue working Cheshire East Highways were not?
Furthermore, I note work will stop each day at 4-30pm and will only take place on weekdays.
Considering the urgency in getting the country back on its feet would it be too much to ask for Cheshire East to make the most of the long summer days and get the job done quicker?
(They certainly take full advantage of any ‘adverse’ weather.)
Thousands of businesses somehow managed to maintain full service all the way through the pandemic.
Every road closure impacts on commerce and frankly companies are in dire need…surely Cheshire East Highways understands that?
Businesses that have been desperate to open their doors are going to will suffer another restriction
Where is the urgency to keep the wheels of industry turning?
