Time to free ourselves from Covid nonsense

-

IF you were told two years ago you would be prevented from attending a family funeral you would have laughed it off.

Had anyone said you wouldn’t be allowed to visit your mother in a care home you would have dismissed it as a crazy conspiracy theories.

Suppose you heard you must not travel in your own car with a friend while thousands of passengers arriving at Heathrow from all over the world were forced to stand together in one huge arrivals hall you would most certainly regard it as nonsense.

You would never have entertained the thought with a virus killing older people in rest homes your own government would send patients there with no testing or screening whatsoever, but they did.

Cheshire East closed down some town centre pay-stations forcing drivers to form queues at whatever pay-station remained open.

Stockport Town Council closed down a huge swathe of parking bays forcing people to use public transport.

None of this was believable two-years ago.

Today it is a reality and I cannot think of a better reason for the public to be sceptical of all politicians seeking more power over our freedom. None of the above can be dismissed as natural errors made under duress.

The Heathrow incident happened last month when everyone knew the consequences of herding thousands of world travellers together but no politician took responsibility, meanwhile police forces were dishing out fines to neighbours gathering in next door’s garden and using drones to spy on walkers.

Power is very addictive and those who use it like to hold onto it.

We now have the vaccines we all prayed for. It’s time we reminded politicians they are there to serve us not the other way around.

Time to reclaim our freedom.
