MP drops in on charity giving young vital aid
MACCLESFIELD MP David Rutley paid a visit to a charity which has been supporting young people during the pandemic.
Just Drop In (JDI), based on Duke Street, Macclesfield, is a charity which provides counselling services, including via telephone and Zoom, well-being services and support for young people, parents and carers.
During the visit Conservative MP David Rutley met with Steve Oliver, the charity’s new chair of trustees, and its chief officer Ann Wright.
He thanked the pair for the hard work the charity had put in throughout the pandemic to improve mental health and emotional well-being, and assisting disadvantaged young people aged 12 to 25 more widely.
The charity’s work helps more than 1,000 beneficiaries each year.
Following the visit, David said: “Just Drop In continues to provide invaluable help and support for children and young people, building on its proven track record over nearly 20 years.
“JDI’s work has been more important than ever during the pandemic and will continue to be as we move back to more normal times.
“The coronavirus pandemic has had a major impact on young people’s mental health and wellbeing, and we are very fortunate to have a charity with such a dedicated team and many volunteers to assist with this vital task.”
David also heard about JDI’s plans to work closely with local schools and to further develop its mentoring scheme.
Working with partners such as Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the charity has helped to address a wide range of concerns such as anxiety and low mood during the pandemic.
At the visit
Steve explained how the charity has strengthened the leadership team and significantly increased its number of counsellors over recent years to enable more young people, and their parents, to be given the support that they need.
