Trust chiefs heading for jungle on trail of fete cash

- JOE RICHARDS

A CHARITY has announced a virtual fete after it had to cancel its in-person event for the second year running.

The Rossendale Trust, a charity which provides Supported Living care to adults with learning and physical disabilities, cancelled its annual fete at Rossendale Hall in Macclesfield for the second year in a row due to the pandemic.

It is usually the charity’s biggest fundraising event, but the Trust is now hoping residents will get behind the virtual fete to raise vital funds.

All money raised via the online event will go directly to supporting adults with learning disabilities living at the Trust, through activities, experiences and holidays ensuring they can live full and meaningful lives, as independently as possible.

Running until September 5, the virtual fete will see Trust CEO Steve Nichols and head of fundraising Sue Heaven undertake a bush tucker trial as part of the online event. The pair will be going head-to-head as they are served a menu of jungle critters, but only if donations reach £1,000 will they air the trial on September 5.

Sue Heaven said “The Trust’s Annual Fete normally raises in the region of £10,000 for the people we support so once again we have had to act and think outside of the box to find alternative ways to fundraise.

“I never imagined it would involve me eating horrendous things in a bush tucker trail though!”

Other events during the fete include a jungle duck race, guessing the number of snakes in a jar, afternoon tea and a grand prize draw.
