THE county’s police and crime commissioner teamed up with officers for an operation tackling rural crime.

John Dwyer, Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, accompanied officers from the Rural Crime Team and Macclesfield Local Policing Unit on an operation to reassure rural residents in Macclesfield.

Operation Crossbow saw the teams work closely with the community and Cheshire East Council to encourage the reporting of rural crime.

They also demonstrated ‘the preventative action that can be taken to help aid crime prevention’.

PC Jim Clark, from the Rural Crime Team, said: “As part of the operation we stopped a number of suspicious vehicles, proactively reduced the chances of anti-social behaviour in the countryside and got some good quality intelligence to help us tackle and prevent crime.

“We forged some very good relationships with residents from the local community and this in turn gave them a chance to see how we operate at night in our determination to deter, prevent and reduce criminal activity in the 613 square miles of rural Cheshire.

“We plan to repeat this type of operation across the county several times over the coming months.”

A YouTube video ‘Operation Crossbow – Rural Crime in Macclesfield’ was also posted to show the work that had been done on the day.

Mr Dwyer said: “It was a privilege to spend time with the local policing team in Macclesfield, the Rural Crime Team, partners and the community to help provide a visible presence to the community and deter rural crime.

“Tackling rural crime is one of my key objectives, and I want to reassure the communities of Cheshire that their local policing teams are here to listen to their concerns any time day or night.”
