Danny is game for award-winning role

-

AN actor who grew up in Bollington has played a starring role in a recent award-winning short film.

Danny Hall, who attended St John’s CE Primary School, stars in ‘It’s Just The Game’, which has won awards at the Cannes World Film Festival.

The 38-year-old won the June award for Best Actor in a Short Film while the film itself picked up the Best Indie Short (Low Budget) award.

Danny grew up in the Dog and Partridge pub, where his parents were landlords.

Danny, a professional magician who became the official magician of London 2012, said:

“From the age of eight to 18 I lived in the pub and it was like a golden age of when pubs were really popular and people socialised and the beer wasn’t ridiculously priced.”

Danny went on to study at the North Cheshire Theatre School in Stockport and the Arden College in Wythenshawe before enjoying a successful career as an entertainer on cruise ships and as Jason Orange in The Take That Experience.

He added he has fond memories of his time in Macclesfield, including rollerblading in West

Park and briefly working at Macclesfield College.

“I went to Macclesfield College and I used to help them out – I did life modelling where you get naked and they paid £50 for the hour and I was like ‘I’m rich!’”, said Danny.

In ‘It’s Just The Game’ Danny plays the host of a bizarre quiz show, which forces a young couple to confront some unsettling truths.

He said he secured the role after being contacted by friend and stuntman Kenny Knight, who also appears in the film.

Danny said: “He rang me up and said we need a camp, charismatic, over the top quizmaster – so that’s how that happened.”

Danny said he enjoyed being able to play his over-the-top character.

“I like to show off,” he said.

“Someone said, Danny, ‘are you enjoying it’? I said – ‘are you mad?’ They tell everyone to be quiet, they point the cameras and the lights at me and shout action – I’m having a great time!”
