Flower Pott men going in circles

-

YOU’RE not going to believe this, oh yeah, it’s Cheshire East so you probably will.

If you were given an additional £5M to spend on the roads in Macclesfield what would you do with the money?

I’m guessing fixing all the potholes would be high on your list…yes? Or maybe straightening Moss Lane at the Congleton Road junction so that you can check the approaching traffic without swivelling your head like a barn owl.

Maybe a dedicated left turn lane for traffic approaching the traffic lights on the A523 at Bonis Hall Lane?

What you wouldn’t do is revisit the same damn junction that has been dug-up, diverted, rejigged, regurgitated and pummelled to within an inch of its useful life.

Clearly bereft of any new initiative Cheshire East have decided to blow the lot on excavating the Flower Pott junction on Congleton Road (again).

Workmen have spent more time up to their knees is sand than Bedouin tribesmen over the past decade digging and re-laying that junction. Lawrence would have never gone to Arabia had he known how much sand was coming his way. (Had it not been for the title: Lawrence of the Flower Pot he’d have taken the job.)

I’m sure it was Einstein who said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” Obviously, he won’t be popular in the Town Hall.

Look, I’m no civil engineer but allow me, just for once, to offer Cheshire East some advice. Unless you intend to build a suspension bridge or a tunnel forget it. There are only so many times you can excavate the same damn junction before taxpayers (remember them?) believe you’re off your rocker.

Take my advice and spend the £5M at the bar in the Flower Pot. Buy everyone who comes through the door a drink. It would be fantastic publicity. Stretch it out over a few years and it could win you the next election (if anyone is sober enough to vote).

(Be honest: it has to be a better idea than Open Day at the Crematorium.)
