Prestbury ace Jae clinches Rose crown
MACCLESFIELD’S very own golfing talent Jae Bowers, a member of Prestbury Golf Club, has become the sixth event winner of the highly anticipated 2021 Rose Ladies Series, supported by international leisure brand, American Golf.
Jae, 27, took home a first prize sum of £10k, after two successful playoff holes against fellow competitors Lauren Horsford and Channette Wannasaen at Royal Birkdale Golf Club, Southport on Tuesday 3rd August. Jae has now earnt her place within the final, which will take place at Bearwood Lakes on 25th September carrying a
£20k prize pot.
The 2021 campaign follows the inaugural Rose Ladies Series which took place last year, founded and funded by Justin Rose MBE, former number one and Major champion along with his wife Kate Rose. Contributing the prize money, which was matched by American Golf and Computacenter UK as title sponsors, the events were intended to plug the gaps that had been left from the cancelled Ladies European Tour tournaments.
Now it is hoped that the Rose Ladies Series will provide the springboard for women golfers to step up their fight for equality in the sport.
Jae, who took up the game at the age of 18 after swapping a hockey stick for a golf club, said: “It’s been such a fantastic day being able to bring home the win on Royal Birkdale’s beautiful links. It’s been a challenging 18 months for players and I’m so grateful for the support given to me by Prestbury Golf Club, for allowing me to use their practice facilities and Marton Meadows Golf Club for providing me with the use of their par 3 course indoor golf simulator.
“These gestures meant that I could continue working on my game and bring my best performance today when I was up against incredible competitors – fingers crossed I can do the same at Bearwood Lakes!”
Gary Favell, CEO, American Golf said: “The second stage of the Rose Ladies Series is proving to be incredibly successful, with talent like Jae’s really coming to the fore, so to speak. Her fantastic playoff performance was a joy to observe, which is why American Golf is proud to back this tournament, as it provides a significant platform for female golfers to shine.
“American Golf is passionate about promoting gender inclusivity and breaking down player barriers within the sport and the Rose Ladies Series embodies these values. The American Golf team wishes Jae all the very best for the final in September.”
The 2021 Rose Ladies Series is split into three sections – in April and May, August, and September – to coincide with gaps in the Ladies European Tour season.
American Golf has 96 stores across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, while also offering online delivery to countries across Europe.
