Comic couple make room to spread word
A COMIC-LOVING couple are opening a new venue to spread the love for their favourite type of art.
Marc and Jane Jackson will unveil Room for Comics above Flour Water Salt, on Macclesfield Market Place, on Saturday, September 4.
The opening coincides with a smaller version of the MACC-POW event, which is run annually by Marc but has taken a backseat during the Covid pandemic.
It returns with three free comic art workshops with Marc as well as cartoonists Tor Freeman, from The Phoenix, and Charlie Adlard, known from the Walking Dead series and a former Comic Laureate.
All are already sold out but the venue will then host a monthly event with workshops, classes and displays from artists.
It will also work with other local businesses to host comic-themed parties.
Marc, 48, from
Macclesfield, said: “It’s all going to be a learning curve but we want to run lots of different kinds of things.
“There is a real diversity of comics and we want to show people the full range of what they have to offer as well as give children something different to do that is not on a screen.”
The aim is for a full MACC-POW to take place next year. A smaller event was organised for 2021 as Marc and Jane, who have their own graphic design company, were unsure what they would be able to put on within Covid regulations. They had originally signed a lease on the venue, which has entry off King Edward Street, two years ago but, again, coronavirus meant plans had to be delayed.
Marc is now delighted to eventually be opening and has thanked Macclesfield Town Council for its support.
He said: “It is now such a different world to the one in which we signed the lease in 2019.
“We have gone from thinking how many can we get in here to how many can come in safely, but we will be excited and relieved to see people in here.
“There will be nothing else like it in the north west.”
