The shed men plant seeds of garden treat
ASOCIAL group that specialises in handiwork put their talent to good use to create a herb planter for elderly residents.
Members of Poynton Men in Sheds used their wood working skills to make the garden feature.
It has been given to residents in Hampson Court, in nearby Hazel Grove, where a selection of herbs is grown for use in cooking and salads.
Geoff King, co-founder of Poynton Men in Sheds, is honorary treasurer of the group which began over seven years ago.
He said: “I have been asked many times to sum up Men in Sheds and the answer is the same for Men in Sheds groups all over the country – it’s a community space for men to connect, converse and create.
“The activities are often like those of any garden shed but for groups of men to enjoy together.
“They help reduce loneliness and social isolation, and improve wellbeing, but most they’re fun.
“We were delighted to be asked to produce the herb planter, and it gives me great pride to be able to pass by it most days and see how much pleasure and enjoyment it brings.”
The planter was made at the group’s workshop at the Centre in Poynton, on Park Lane. importantly,
Judy Booth, a resident at Hampson Court, said: “We are really enjoying tending to the plants and it’s become a fantastic and practical addition to the development.”
Poynton Men in Sheds have also made a sensory garden classroom for Lostock Hall Primary School, refurbished the Poynton Round Table’s Santa
Sleigh and turned two railway trucks into floral planters in Poynton.
Members also produce small items such as bird feeders, bird tables and trugs to sell and to help cover their rent and material costs as well as their tools.
