Depleted Prestbury put up good fight

- CRICKET BILL LIVESLEY

IT was a difficult week with the Bank Holiday and Prestbury had to concede the seconds match so enough players could fulfil the long trip for the first team to Wirral CC.

Prestbury skipper

Gabor Simon was asked to field as Wirral won the toss, and Prestbury had an early breakthrough when Adal Hussain bowled Hackett for 11.

However, Wirral didn’t lose another wicket till the 20th over with the score on 107 when Risha Mehta bowled Slight for 35. Two overs later Mehta struck again bowling Afridi for 14, but that was the last wicket Prestbury took as opener Lewis punished all the bowlers and some dropped catches didn’t help. Lewis went to 50, then 100 and finished at the close of the innings on 174 not out supported by Jones not out on 56 they put on 191 taking the Wirral total off 40 overs 321 for 3.

Prestbury wicket takers Hussain 1 for 23 and Rishi Mehta 2 for 29.

Prestbury knew it would be a case of getting batting points on the board. Ales Insley fell in the first over for three and two wickets fell with the score on 16, Jim Wallace 6 and Sumon Ahmed 9, new batsman Simon and Rishi Mehta soaked up 7 overs before Mehta was out for 8.

Will Worswick came to the wicket with full intent to attack the Wirral bowling which he did rushing to 33 off 24 balls, but after facing 38 balls for 14 Simon was out bowled, with the score on 75, Worswick was out for 33 and 3 runs later Lish was out for 2. This brought

Max Cowling Jones and Hussain together and they both played the bowling well and got to 137 off 33 overs, putting on a partnership of 59, but the wicket of Hussain fell for a well earned 34.

Yass Khan hit 11 off 6 balls but was caught so Prestbury had earned 10 match points and were aiming for 160 and to use all 40 overs for four more points but the innings came to an end at 148 when Raul Mehta was out in the 36th over and this left Cowling Jones 26 not out, a good effort with so many players missing.

The thirds opponents conceded on Sunday so Jack Cookson and his merry men end up top equal with Didsbury 5th team and both undefeated so we wait to see if one team or two are promoted, well done to Jack and all who played for the Sunday side.
