Music charity gets back in tune again at its new home
ACOMMUNITY group that helps musicians aged three to 83 hit the right note will restart its live lessons.
Macclesfield Music Centre will begin again from its new base at Fallibroome Academy, on Priory Lane, on Saturday, September 25, and registration is now open.
The registered charity had moved online during the pandemic and even managed to release an online video concert involving 76 players recorded separately then stitched together.
But members say this is not the same as live performing together and they cannot wait to get going again.
Nick Cheetham, from the centre, said: “People’s lives have changed dramatically during lockdown in so many ways, music is one.
“Our members have lost their weekly focus of faceto-face of music making.
“Our junior members have lost their chance to play in ensembles and catch up with their musician friends from other schools.
“Nothing matches music making in-person. We are excited to be restarting.”
The centre, previously found on Fence Avenue, has been an introduction thousands of people to musical instruments and singing over its 27-year history.
It then provides continued access for children and adults alike, currently having more than 250 members.
On Saturday’s during term time there are music sessions and classes, which cost £50 per term for adults and £30 for under 18s with bursary places available.
Nick said: “The centre has nurtured and encouraged many talented young musicians with some members moving onto prestigious music colleges across the country and going on to work as professional musicians.
“It also plays a significant role in providing an outlet for adults to take part in making music.”
Exams can be sat and one to one tuition is available at an extra cost (again a bursary can part fund this).
