Depleted side show spirit to secure draw

-

right from Anna Stanley had Runcorn on the back foot with Evie Brocklehurst putting in a back to goal captain’s performance, leading the attack well.

The second half began with a flurry as we forced corner after corner but were unable to apply the finishing touch. A battling Lola Stewart won a free kick on the edge the box which Evie Brocklehurst whipped just over the bar. Runcorn fought back as our girls tired but the game finished with Ashleigh Robson marshalling the defence and Annabelle Jones setting up some good chances from midfield. A hard-fought draw!

It was a goal fest for the U13 team, who played Weaverham Cy. A strong all-round team performance where Macc were never under pressure. Melika Barnett made her debut, and

Anna Davies was awarded Girl of the Game. We saw lots of goals from our brilliant team with Anna Davies (3), Sophie Goodier (3), Abi Poulton (2) and Kelly-Shae O’Neill (1) all reaching the back of the net. There was some fabulous open play and some brilliant goal assists from Bella Ashton and Chloe Lawson.

Finally, our U16 team took on Congleton Vale. Last year’s champions Macc hosted last year’s runners up and played out a 3-3 draw which didn’t truly reflect the superiority Macclesfield displayed and were left to rue a host of missed chances in the second half. Taking the lead each time firstly through Elli Smith on her debut and twice through Lola Craddock, Macc were pegged back each time with rare defensive errors letting Congleton in to score 3 goals before the break. Girl of the game went to Holly Davies for great link up play down the left-hand side and attacking well.

Another league game unbeaten which has now stretched their unbeaten run to well over 15 calendar months.
