Captains bow out with charity boost

DESPITE two very difficult years in golf clubs the retiring Macclesfie­ld Golf Club Captain Pete Lloyd and Lady Captain Wendy Higgins were delighted to be able to present a cheque for £5212.56 to their chosen charity of The Christie.

They went to the newly opened Christie Building in Macclesfie­ld to present their cheque to Louise Dawson the Community Fundraisin­g Officer for The Christie.

They reflected that the onset of the pandemic was not a great time for sport but this did not subdue their passion and commitment to help raise funds for their chosen charity and the great support they were given by club members and friends.

A Singles Stableford for Macc’s men had division one led in by Mark Jackson with 42 from Darran Greenwood 40 and in division two Roger Tippen was out on his own with 42.

Macc ladies played their Spring Meeting and Frances Wilbraham won a cpo on 25 from Marlene Connor and just a point back were Georgina Whalley and Nancy Barkworth.

Midweek Stableford action at Avro saw Neil Flood win a cpo on 36 from Chris Robinson, four more than Peter Hale.

Avro ladies played a singles Stableford and it was won in style by Ruth Miles with 43 from Carol Lund 41and Jane Tarr 40.

The fourth round of the Simister Cup at Alderley Edge had Mike Harding first past the post with 23, two more than Mike O’Regan and John Roberts.

A Chicken Run Stableford for Edge’s ladies was won by Teresa Broomhall with 35 from Fiona Anderson 34 and Wendy Harrison 32.

The Winter medal final at Davenport saw the divisions topped by Jon Lloyd 64, Iain Bryceland after a cpo on 62 with Chris Massey and Trevor Mattershaw after a cpo on 60 with Peter Cavanagh.

A singles Stableford at Mottram Hall had Rob Jones on top of division one after a cpo on 38 with Graham Webb.

In division two Fraser Scott was a clear winner with 40 from Craig Watson 37.

A Seniors BB Stableford at Prestbury had G Bickerton and C Mackinnon leading in with 43 from M Murray and A McGuigan and N Hargreaves and P Dodd, both 42.

Prestbury ladies were in Stableford mode and in division one Gillian Singh won a cpo on 37 from Kim Mortimer.

In division two Gilly O’Neill won with 39, one more than Karen Keen and Claire Sutton and the 9-hole winner was Jill Hughes after a cpo on 20 with Shirley Osbaldesto­n.

A Reverse Stableford Team Waltz for Styal seniors had the nimble feet of K Hope, S Wild and D Blackburh taking them to a winning haul of 80. Two more than D Riley, G Swann and L Potts.

A Styal Seniors Stableford was won by David Melia with 38, one more than Bruce Cochrane.

The Saturday Stableford at Styal had Andrew Martin in firm control of division one with 43 and in division two Richard Armstead led in with 38 one more than

A ladies Stableford at Styal had Donna O’Reilly cruising to victory with 39 from Margaret Fairhurst 33 and Mel Hill 31. and

The Winter League conclusion at Tytheringt­on saw Jane Ambler win the ladies section with Paula Kingsley and Kath Lees as joint runnersup.

Clear winners for the men were Silkmen fan Steve Rayer in division one and David Court in division two.

The first summer comps saw Jean McKillop win the ladies par/Bogey on +1 from Kath Lees level par.

Andy Heywood won the men’s comp with an impressive +7 from Alan Wright and Steven Webb. Both +6.
