Plain truth is I won’t be made to look a floody fool

-

I RECEIVED this photo today from a reader who claims Cheshire East have given planning permission to build houses on this land off Albert Road in Bollington.

Residents have been fighting against the plans dubbing the situation ‘crazy’ - and photos taken this month show why.

There are many stories I believe about Cheshire East but this one I am seriously doubting.

The photo appeared on my desk on April 4 and I suspected it was a late April Fool stunt. I’ve had it done to me before when another reader sent me a picture of a lion on Mill Street that turned out to be a large dog with a huge head superimposed onto the picture.

Clearly, a lion strolling around Macclesfield was unlikely but not as unlikely as anyone daft enough to build on a floodplain.

There appears to be an increasing number of homes that suffer from floodwater. You don’t suppose it has anything to do with the huge amount of development we have seen in the last few years do you and the subsequent loss of natural drainage?

This is a late April Fool prank and I’m not falling for it.

Cheshire East have done some daft things over the 25 years I’ve been following them like approving plans for a bus station approach that proved too steep for the buses, handing out First Prize to an architect for his design of a library that could not be built, actually holding an open day at the crematorium, banning a butchers van from the town square in case his wheels damaged the cobbles before replacing it with an army tank, town centre seats for the elderly made from cast iron but building houses on a floodplain is a little too far-fetched.

I don’t believe Cheshire East are that mad.
